<\/b>For a long time, balsamaria were incorrectly called <\/span>lacrimatoria (from the Latin <\/b>lacrima<\/i><\/b> - tear)<\/b>. It was believed that they were used to collect tears during mourning ceremonies. Although romanticized, this theory has been disproven, the vessels stored <\/span>cosmetic oils and perfumes<\/b>, not the tears of mourners. Modern analysis <\/span>organic residues<\/b> found in balsamaria carried out by means of <\/span>gas chromatography and mass spectrometry<\/b> showed the presence of <\/span>oils, vegetable fats, resins and fragrances<\/b>, but not compounds present in human tears (e.g., salts, enzymes)<\/span><\/p>

Today it can serve as a <\/span>unique interior decoration<\/b>, part of <\/span>private collection<\/b>, an object for historical reconstructions or <\/span>educational material<\/b>.
