A vessel with a low, flattened body, with two thin, rising handles and a matching lid ending in a flat button. Made of fine-grained clay with a   <\/span><b>orange-red shade<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">covered with <\/span><b>dark firnis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and decorated with a band of vertical zigzags in brown-black.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the underside is visible <\/span><b>an undersized ring foot<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  With concentric circles and lathe marks. Preserved   <\/span><b>museum numbering<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  applied in ink. The surface of the dish shows typical   <\/span><b>traces of reduction firing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, local discoloration, loss of phirnis and mineral deposits, but the whole is preserved in <\/span><b>complete form with the original lid<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lekanis was used in ancient Greece <\/span><b>for storing cosmetics, fragrances, jewelry and small ornaments<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
