Icon of Our Lady of the Dawn Gate, Poland, 19th century.

Decorative travel icon depicting the Mother of God of Ostra Brama framed in bust, with her hands crossed on her chest. The face and hands made in the technique of enamel painting (finift), characterized by subtle shading.
The figure is shielded by a plastic relief dress (chemise) made of gilded metal, richly decorated with engraved floral and geometric motifs. Mary's head is surrounded by a radial nimbus surmounted by a crown, decorated with a motif of stars.
The image is set against a background of maroon velour, framed in an extremely elaborate, openwork inner frame made of silver using the filigree technique with a floral thread motif, with repoussed floral rosettes in the corners. The whole piece is enclosed in a representative, profiled outer frame of gilded brass.
